First snow

First snow
Originally uploaded by Theorris.
It is snowing today and I am laying in my bed watching it. The light is a subtle grey-brown. I like the meditative nature of snow fall. It makes one less compelled to do anything other than watch it swirl in patterns across the bare bones of the trees outside. But the juxtaposition is there, of course. I am warm and inside and protected from all this. I am enabled to appreciate the beauty of what for others at other times and in other circumstances must have seen/see as nothing but pain and suffering. Still, though, even the most life-battered twelth century Northern European peasant must have looked out of his hovel one fine November morning to see snow twisting down to Earth and felt something akin to the peace I feel now.

Comments:

It's a nice friggin' 84 with a hot wind blowing at 30 MPH.

Some day you must taste my cornbread dressing with herbs fresh from my "garden" along with the all natural fresh turkey. None of that MSG saturated Butterball for me.

-Oh yeah!-

I was sick yesterday and today. In the midst of a Law and Order marathon, I looked out last night to see the snow falling. This morning, when Bruiser went out, he frolicked--no other word for it. The only thing better than the snow itself is an actual snow day, one that makes time stop (i.e., school).

Beautiful shot. I've often thought about how easy it is for us to appreciate the power of nature from our protected lives.

You've inspired me to follow through with a thought I had the other day: taking my digital along on my hikes throughout the winter in order to motivate me to get off my butt and make it to the top. Since I've given up competitive ultra running I need other motivators.

Two things I need: 1) Environmentally sound vehicle with sporty looks but able to go camping at the drop of a tent pole; 2)Google to allow the strike tag back into their profile box. Do nothing evil, eh, Google? That's pretty damn evil.
