Wash Remember that WASH thing? I am rethinking it, since I got really lazy about getting it together. I am thinking of changing it into something like the 26 thing projects. I will propose a subject, folks will write on that subject, and the turn in their permalink to the database. Some time ago the kind folks at CAWS gave me an interesting little book appropriately titled The Writer's Block. It has a variety of different subjects that could be used. I think about it. I still like the name WASH. Entry 301-519 (permanent) posted by Clint on Saturday,February 07,2004 at 01:46:27 PM. comment Pieneer talk
From: Cordelia Willgren We were watching the yahoos on the SCO video. One guy keep saying in-DUST-re for industry. Is that it's pronounced in Utahn? If so then the State Motto is: In-DUST-re? I'm off to a birthday lunch....Fred said to bring a selection of DVDs, watching them will prohibit talking. Yes the accent is placed in the middle for some. "Industrial" definitely would be in-DUST-rial, or inDUSreeeeeeeeal. The tendency in the Utah pronunciation is to conflate with glottal stops vowels and consonants--unlike the Dallasian accent where one adds vowels. "Layton" (a town in Utah) becomes "Lay'un". "Clinton" becomes "Clin'un". I'm surprised industry is not ins'tree. Come to think of it, some do say it that way. I don't recommend it, however, as salmonella is not the most fun thing to experience. Even though the Mayor's mailbox receives a large number of messages each day, our goal is to provide you with a complete response as soon as possible. Some inquiries may require research by multiple departments, so please be patient. Mayor Anderson reviews all comments, inquiries, and responses. If you have emailed the Mayor's Office a comment, it will be forwarded to Mayor Anderson for his review. Thank you for taking the time to write. Dear Mayor Anderson, I was listening to your interview on KRCL today (2/4/2004) and you stated that you were looking for volunteers to serve on your bicycle committee. As a person who is committed to using alternative methods of transportation, to making our city more walkable/rideable, and to improving our city's air quality, I am very interested in this committee. I am curious, however, about specific details: How are committee members chosen? How often does the committee meet? For how long? I guess I am asking what time commitment the committee will take, over all. If you need information about me (such as a curriculum vitae/resume) or references, you can contact me via email. I look forward to hearing from you. Basically this committee plans bike routes and tries to get people to give up their cars. The Mayor's goal is to make SLC the alternative transportation capitol of the world. I'm thinking of calling up the Mayor's office and volunteering. Does this bode for a political future? God I hope not.
