Where does outerspace end?

"Where does outerspace end?" I remember that was one of the BIG QUESTIONS that I had in third grade. I had a broken arm. I couldn't learn cursive, but I sure could think about what was on the other side of the big wall in space of the thing that was supposed to be limitless.

Where does outer space end? Right at the tips of your fingers.

Now, tell me, where does inner space end?

"This here girraffe was never caught complaining

He wouldn't take skin off your back

And you hear yourself thinking"

"This here girraffe laughed"

Girraffe. Now that's a memory. An early one. A plastic one.

And you feel yourself.

A/C & Things you wished you did

OK it is heating up. I decided I wasn't going to put up with another sauna sleep summer. Changing sheets everyday is a drag. Thanks to Cordelia for saving the pictures.

Cordelia says, "here's a great story it was in the Hill Country News. Something happened at Graduation at Caroline's high school"

Cordelia says, "it's the first graduating class too"

You say, "yes"

You ask, "streaking?"

Cordelia says, "one of the senior girls, on the honor society, all the top honors, you know, in the top 10 % of the class"

Cordelia says, "wait"

Cordelia says, "when she came across the stage to get her diploma, she lifted her gown and mooned the crowd"

Cordelia says, "and written across her butt were the words:"

Cordelia says, "The Choice Is Yours"

You say, "hah"

Cordelia says, "unless you have forgotten, that's one of the Love and logic phrases"

Cordelia says, "up there with how sad for you"

Cordelia says, "Caroline says that the principal has ended the announcements with that phrase for 4 years"

You say, "good for her"

Cordelia says, "The girl was arrested"

Cordelia says, "when she came off stage"

Cordelia says, "she has to pay a $500 fine"

More basketball

I forgot about the pictures from the last Jazz game. 2nd row it was not. Still it was a good game, despite pitiful play from the Jazz.

Cobwebs

So its Memorial Day. My stick in the mud self makes this one of the worst holidays of the season. As a child the day was simply about death. Now granted that is the purpose of the holiday, but I think to most Americans it is just the kick off to the summer fun. To me it was just delivering flowers to graves for people whom I never knew, but died early and set off the morose nature of my family.

Am I obsessed with death? I remember someone asking me when I was 20 what I would be doing when I was 80. I answered "I don't know what I am going to be doing tomorrow let alone 60 years from now." Truth was, I was living in that short term that death gives you. In all, Dad and Mom passed a lot of the unspoken grief on to me, I think, and it carried on when Dad died...and then Mom, as well. The unspoken is pretty powerful. It gets under the skin like a sliver.

I spoke with my sister the other day. She asked me if I was going to the cemetery. I said know and expected her to give one of her "ohs." Surprisingly, she didn't. She just said "well I've got some mums for the graves" with no hint of guilting me out about not going. Maybe she understand me better than I think she does. I'm not being callous or uncaring, but I want to think of my parents the way were when they were alive, not buried 6 feet under. I'll set aside some time tomorrow to think about it all. Emotional death pretty much sums up what happens to one when literal death abounds.
